Hypnosis For Health – It’s All Just In The Mind!
Although hypnosis has been successful employed for thousands of years as a healing tool, it was dismissed for a long time by modern science as merely an amusing stage trick only good for entertaining. However, within the past 30 years hypnosis has enjoyed a revival in the medical community as its benefits are becoming more measurable.
Even though conventional medical thinking relegated hypnosis to nothing more than a stage act it is now considered a unique and fast solution for many medical problems by the medical profession today. In the United Kingdom hypnosis is available on the NHS. In America research has shown that hypnosis is very effective for quitting smoking and in France hypnotherapists, under laboratory conditions, found that they could lower a patient’s blood pressure!
Over the years hypnosis has been portrayed, in the media, films and television, as an evil tool used for evil ends. Films especially tend to show hypnosis in a bad light with hypnotists having evil or selfish motives for using it. Hollywood has even made many people believe that hypnosis can be used to brain-wash unsuspecting victims into committing crimes and even murder! Hypnosis cannot be used in any of these ways and a person can never be forced to go against their morals or values through the use of hypnosis!
Having said that, hypnosis can be used to alter beliefs, thought processes, emotional responses, negative memories and more. With the conscious consent of the subject, hypnosis can be used to make any psychological change desired!
No one knows how hypnosis works. How it has the ability to have such profound effects on the mind and body remains elusive to researchers. However, its effectives are obvious!
A hypnotic state is one of relaxed concentration where the body and mind are at ease but the focus is heightened.
Hypnosis is a natural state that everyone experiences throughout their daily lives. When you read a good book, watch a movie that captures your attention, listen to an inspiring piece of music or just wander off into a day dream you are experiencing a form of trance.
Scientists have been able to measure the effects of hypnosis on the mind and body. It has been found that when we enter a hypnotic state our brainwaves change. Normally our brainwaves display a Delta pattern, however in hypnosis these change to Alpha waves. The Alpha state has been proven to be a very susceptible state. Any suggestions given in this sate are passed directly to the subconscious mind and take root at a very deep level. The Alpha state also gives us the ability to probe long forgotten memories or the psychological causes of distress as it allows for direct communication with the subconscious mind.
As the subconscious mind is responsible for the running of the body, its immune system and its healing this means hypnosis is a very powerful way of not only healing psychological wounds but also physical ones!
At Harvard Medical School they found that broken bones could be healed three weeks quicker than normal through the use of hyspnosis. They also discovered that they could reduce scarring and inflammation through the use of carefully worded hypnotic suggestions.
Because hypnosis can be used to gain communication with the subconscious mind quickly it is a marvellous tool for psychological change.
Hypnosis is an excellent tool for psychological disorders and is used to treat many different psychological illnesses. Anxiety, trauma and depression are just a few of the disorders that have been successfully treated with hypnotherapy. Thus it has become a very important tool with self improvement practitioners.
Research continues on a daily basis into the uses of and effectiveness of Hypnosis so who can tell what other benefits may be uncovered.
